Black History in Fashion

27 February, 2013 | Fashion, The Latest | Permalink

What better way to honor Black History month (and girl power) and all the people who fought long and hard to give me and so many others a chance at freedom and equality than showcase a recent history maker, Ava DuVernay.  DuVernay is the first African-American woman to win the Best Director Award for her second feature film Middle of Nowhere at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival. Without the Martin Luther Kings, Black Panthers, Malcom Xs, and Rosa Parks of our nation’s history, there wouldn’t be a Director DuVernay.

Miu Miu recently enlisted DeVernay’s talents for another one of the fashion house’s short films. The film stars actress, Gabrielle Union along-side an all black female cast. The film shows Gabrielle Union going through a depressing break up, but with the help of her loving friends she becomes a bright, new woman. It’s a great film with no words just background music and beautiful women wearing haute, retro clothes.

Hope you enjoy! Let me know what you think!

Long Overdue

Hello dolls!

I know I’ve been MIA for a while. I’ve been going through some changes and getting my thoughts together. Lately I’ve been at a point where I’m not exactly happy in my life. When I started this blog I had so many plans and ideas for it, over time I lost that zeal and excitement in the midst of all the other stuff going on in my life. It seems like I’m letting time fly pass me and I’m not truly accomplishing anything. I needed to figure out who I am and what makes me happy. I realized I have to risks and make the moves to make myself happy and not everyone else. I could talk about this all day, but I ultimately wanted you all to know that I am here to stay and thanks for still supporting throughout my lapse of motivation. And you all can keep a look out for something big within the next day or so. I’m really excited about it and I hope you all enjoy it. Thanks again!!! Love ya!!

Hello World!! After being MIA since July, I have opened my eyes to many things. So much has been going on with me, trying to find myself, grow up, and figure out what truly makes me happy. And I still feel like I have so much more ” soul-searching” to do. I question am I limiting myself and settling, instead of taking chances and going against my boring, routine of a life.  But I do know I have missed being here.  I’m ready to fully commit to Fashion C’est La Vie and I want you here for the ride!

On to a more fashionable note, I thought it only right to come back with a beautiful photo of yours truly! : ) On a serious note though, I decided to wear this outfit to church this past Sunday. I wanted to be myself and still look wholesome at the same time lol. So I threw together a quick little blue monochromatic look on top and a bit of fall “fierceness” on my feet. I’m really in love with this monochromatic trend right now and I’ve been trying to incorporate it into my daily looks. So look out for a future post about that.

Transition Summer Pieces into Fall Looks

28 July, 2012 | Fashion, Style Inspiration | Permalink

One of the most important things in fashion is knowing how to transition and reuse your items in other seasons, because it’s so easy to waste money away on “trendy” items that can never really be used again. Kerry Washington Goes Retro Fab For Vogue Italia

15 July, 2012 | Fashion, The Latest | Permalink

Pictures courtesy of Necolebitchie

I recently spotted this spread on actress Kerry Washingston for July 2012 Vogue Italia. I posted a few of my favorite shots from the shoot. I love the retro flare, particularly the jumpsuit, her big hair, and the flower print maxi dress. The shots just scream 1960s Jackie-O glamour  and Ms. Washington pulls the looks off effortlessly! I would love to play dress up and rock these fit. Would you?

Dilemmas, Decisions, and Drinks

13 July, 2012 | Fashion, Straight From The Horse's Mouth | Permalink

It seems like I haven’t posted in decades. I’ve been very busy lately with work, school, and every other thing going on in my life… and this has made me really realize that I have to make some very important decisions to better help me focus on this blog and my business ventures. I have been fighting myself on what decision to make concerning this dilemma for sometime now and I am realizing that sometimes you have to take chances and put 100% in, especially while I’m young. Sometimes we can be stuck in a situation, because we are too comfortable or  afraid to take a chance. However, no great, successful person in this world whether they be a fashion mogul, an entrepreneur, or a doctor couldn’t have become who they were without taking chances and working hard. In order to get somewhere in life, no matter how hard it may seem, you have no choice but to do it to prevent yourself from being stagnant and stuck in a half ass situation. The struggle you go through today is just a set up for a better future for yourself, because nothing is easy in life, but if you’re willing to endure you will accomplish anything. But, you all will be hearing more about this very soon. On to another great note, I have gotten the opportunity to work as a volunteer at Mercedes-Benz Swim Fashion Week in Miami next week thanks to a lovely friend of mine! I’m so very excited! Can’t wait to tell you guys all about it!!! So stay tuned! OOH and the above picture is from last night while I was out and about with the BF. We had dinner and drinks at Chilli’s. And might I add my Tropical Sunrise Margarita was great!

Haute Finds: Sally Hansen Salon Effects

8 June, 2012 | Fashion, Haute Finds | Permalink

Step 1: Select best fitting strip for each nail

Step 2: Remove clear protective plastic cover, then pee nail polish strip from backing paper.

Step 3: Choose the side of the strip that best fits the shape of your cuticle. Break silver tap from strip.

Step 4: Place strip against cuticle line. Hold strip at center for maximum control.

Press strip to nail. Gently stretch strip for a perfect fit.

Firmly smooth over entire nail. Run flat-side of cuticle stick along edge of strip to firmly bond strip to nail.

Step 5: Smooth excess over nail edge, forming a crease around the edge of the nail. Gently file away excess from the nail edge using the light pink side of the file.

Repeat steps 2-5 for each nail, applying to thumbs last.

Personal tip: I apply clear nail polish on top just to try to make it last a little longer and protect the nails better.

To remove strips use nail polish remover.

FINISHED!
Sally Hansen Salon Effects Glitter Gold & One painted blue nail

These awesome finds can be found at your local drugs store, Walmart, or Beauty Supply. Sally Hansen makes these for manicures and pedicures. When I found them in Walmart, all I heard was AHHH… and the pearly gates have opened. See, I’ve been looking for an alternative route for my nails for the longest, seeing as though I don’t wear fake nails and nail polish never holds up well on my natural nails. And let’s just face the truth… no 21 year old woman should be walking around with busted nails. Lol! Sally Hansen has become my nails’ savior. I absolutely adore Salon Effects. They do last for quite a while and you can do so much with them. I’ve tried leopard print and have moved on to a glittery gold color. I decided to mix the glitter gold nails with one blue nail on each hand, just to had a pop of color and make my nails coordinate with my toes. Another great thing about them, is that they come with 16 nails, so if you mess up… no worries! Will you be trying these out?

Betsey Johnson Going out of Business

16 May, 2012 | Fashion, The Latest | Permalink

I’m back today with some very sad news… the fun, quirky, and fashionable company we all know and love as Betsey Johnson is going out of business. I just so happen to be checking out some online stores and Betsey Johnson is currently having a going out of business sale. So, of course I had to do some investigating. Betsey Johnson will be filing for bankruptcy and is currently selling off their assets. Betsy Johnson Stores will be having an online sale and in store sale with 20-50% off clothing and accessories along with selling all in-store furniture, fixtures, and lighting. However, they will be keeping around some of the Betsey Johnson stores like NY  and the brand will  sale Betsey Johnson on a wholesale basis only.
